The Chevrolet car company was founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet (a Swiss racing car driver and automotive engineer) in partnership with one William C. Durant. However, the company has had a checkered history of involvement with General Motors until today when Chevys are made by the Chevrolet Division of General Motors LLC.
One way or another, the name “Chevrolet” or “Chevy” has become iconic in the motor car world. Maybe because of (or possibly in spite of) the GM slogan in the 1920’s that Chevrolet would be “a car for every purse and purpose”. In fact, Chevrolet “brand” vehicles were outselling Henry Ford’s Model T by 1929 when they became the bestselling car in the country.
Chevy Today
Chevrolet vehicles are still largely produced in the US which is reason enough for some people to purchase them from a wish to support American industry. Chevrolet still maintain a wide range of models to suit many purposes.
Chevy based cars are active in racing and well established amongst teams competing in NASCAR, Indycar events as well as the FIA World Touring Car Championship. This is reflected by strong support from the car buying public for Chevrolet sports or so called ”muscle” cars like their Corvette and Camaro.
At the opposite end of the market, Chevrolet has some 12 models in the sub-compact and compact range. They also produce mid-size cars like their Malibu and full size such as the Impala. MPV’s and SUV’s complete their range of basically “passenger” vehicles. In addition they also have a range of trucks and vans suitable for personal and commercial use. A Chevrolet pickup truck has long been a favorite amongst aficionados of such a means of transport. The Chevrolet marque was also chosen by GM for the introduction of hybrid vehicles.
Buying A Chevy
Buying a used Chevy direct from its current owner is always a possibility but many of us in this part of Texas prefer the wider range of models available from the Chevrolet dealers in San Antonio. We have to choose which dealership to patronize and, unless you have a long history of involvement with one of the Chevrolet dealers In San Antonio, you are having to take on trust the dealer’s claim that he genuinely represents the Chevrolet Division of General Motors and that any vehicle we buy from him (whether new or used) does have some backing from Chevrolet itself.
From all the Chevrolet dealers in San Antonio, you can trust the dealership of Wommack Chevrolet in Castroville. They have most of the current new models plus a good selection of used Chevys. Phone them on (830) 931-9200 to see if they have the one you are looking for.
