Nobody wants to have a dirty, dingy floor. This means any flooring will need regular cleaning. However, Vinyl Flooring, like any other type of flooring, needs to be cleaned and cared for the right way to avoid damaging the floor. Certain types of cleaning methods should be off-limits.
Do
* Use a mat at each entryway to catch as much of the dirt and other debris coming into the house as possible. This will make it so there’s less to clean up and less dirt to potentially get ground into the flooring and damage it.
* Sweep or vacuum the floor regularly to keep dust and dirt from building up. It’s best to do this every day if possible.
* Use a damp mop at least once a week to really remove the dirt on the floor and keep it looking its best. Just be sure to only use a mild natural cleanser during the process.
* Treat any stains right away to prevent them from causing a permanent discoloration in your Vinyl Flooring.
* Use protective pads under furniture and keep rubber-bottomed items off of the vinyl.
Don’t
* Use any abrasive cleanser, varnish, wax, oil-based products, black soap, acetone or solvents, lemon or vinegar-based products or mop and shine products, as these can either damage the floor or leave a dull film on the floor. Choose special cleansers from the flooring manufacturer or natural, soft, or neutral cleansers in small amounts.
* Use any scratchy, abrasive scrubbing tools to try to remove stains. Treating stains right away with the proper cleansers should help to make this unnecessary.
* Place heaters or hot items near the vinyl floor. Instead, place these items as far away from the flooring as possible.
* Drag furniture across the floor. Lift it up and carry it instead of dragging it or at least put it on furniture sliders so it won’t catch on and tear the vinyl.
