There’s seemingly no end to the moving frenzy. Even after you move in, there’s a seemingly never-ending list of things left to do. Especially when you move into a new condo, you’re going to be left with a million things to do. Luckily, condos are quickly becoming more fashionable among newer generations, who wish to own their own property, while not having to pay as much as single-family homes. Therefor, hints, tips, and tricks on what to do, change, and rearrange when moving into a condo are aplenty. So, if you’re looking for a midtown condo with river views, here are some good tricks to follow when moving into a new condo.

#1. Rekey the locks

Not to imply that the sellers of the condos aren’t to be truswted (that should be left up to your discretion) but rather, you should always be wary of the folks you just bought the condo from. Any number of people could have come into contact with those keys over the years, and may be planning something unsavory for you, the new tenant. In this case, it’s better to play it safe than sorry, so you should have your locks rekeyed or outright changed the minute it becomes convenient for you to do so.

#2. Change the alarm batteries

When a fire breaks out, or someone breaks in, or carbon monoxide is loose in your house the laster thing you want is for your alarms to not be active when it happens. It may not seem like a pressing issue now, when you’re moving in and dealing with approximately a bajillion other issues, but better to deal with it when you’re thinking about it, before you forget about it completely, risking it not being around when you actually do need it. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it, after all.

#3. Find the circuit breaker, now

If you were not there during inspection, then the first thing you should definitely do, is find, and memorize the location of, your condos circuit breaker. It’s probably out around the back somewhere, where it’s relatively safe. While you’re back there, find the water shutoff valve which should be nearby. These two things need to be found and memorized, for your own good. Because when a pipe bursts, or something short circuits, then those are the two things you’re going to want to make a beeline for.
