With an aim to try and give back to nature, Dioxide Materials developing technology that can help lower the world’s carbon footprint. In an effort to do so, we are currently developing technology that can put the carbon dioxide present in the air to productive use.

The Problem – Renewable Energy Curtailment

* There were several instances in 2017 when California had to pay Arizona utilities and other states to take the excess solar power that it produced.
–  14 days in March
–  9 days in February
–  8 days in January

* The reason behind renewable energy curtailment is that grid operators are required to limit the amount of renewable energy accepted by the grid.

* In the month of March, 2017 alone curtailment of renewable energy in California reached 8000 MW.

The Solution Proposed by Dioxide Materials

* Since electrolyzers can use electricity productively, a large bank of electrolyzers can be used to harness hundreds of megawatts of electricity.

* When more renewable energy is produced than the grid can handle, the electrolyzer system can be turned on to redirect it.

* This electrolyzer system can then use CO2 and water with the excess renewable energy to produce renewable fuels and chemical at competitive rates.

How Dioxide Materials’ CO2 Electrolyzers Can Help

* Using the innovative Carbon Dioxide Electrolyzer technology, we have developed electrolyzers that can convert carbon dioxide, water and renewable energy to produce carbon-neutral fuels and chemicals.

* We plan on making carbon dioxide recycling a reality by reusing the billions of tons ofecapturing CO2 that are emitted in the the air each year and converting it into fuels and chemicals that we use every day.

* Our long-term aim is to build CO2 electrolyzer systems that will allow production of renewable energy without worrying about destabilizing the grid.

Dioxide Materials’ CO2 Electrolyzers Display Record Performance

* Currents up to 500 mA/cm2 at 3V
* Selectivity (Faraday efficiency) over 95%
* Only 6 μV/hr voltage increase over thousands of hours
* Stable performance in 6 months’ run
* Can also be integrated with Ethanol fermenter to increase Ethanol production

Advantages of Using Dioxide Materials’ Electrolyzers

* CO2 energy conversion at half the energy input as the competitors
* Sustainion® Alkaline Anion Exchange membranes enable improved performance
* Long lifetime
* Reduced cost
* Competitive Prices
