Keg cleaners are keg washing machines. They come in automatic and semi-automatic technology. They also require power, a supply of water, a means to accomplish the drainage the machines require and, of course, space. They employ these different components to accomplish their tasks that consist of:
- Purging: Keg cleaners remove the residue of beer from the keg
- Turbo-cleaning: A keg cleaner using a special type of cleaning, often acid-based agent, washes the keg thoroughly
- Purging: This second purging is to remove the cleaning agent used by the keg cleaners. It may also recoup the actual cleaning agent and recycle it.
- Rinse: This process washes away any remaining cleaning agent into the drain.
- Purging: The final purging removes both air and water from the keg. It then pressurizes it with CO2.
The purpose of keg cleaners is to thoroughly clean a keg. Depending upon the capabilities of the device, it can clean large or small quantities of kegs. Some address the needs of smaller breweries while others handle the demands of larger ones. When purchasing keg cleaners, it is important to ensure they can meet the requirements of your brewery. They also need to be capable of efficiently and effectively addressing the different sizes of barrels including a 1/6 barrel, 1/4 barrel and/or 1/2 barrel keg.
