With inflation on the rise, the cost of phone and internet services has followed suit. Fortunately, the federal government has instituted a program called Lifeline. It is run by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) and is available to low-resource individuals and households who need help paying for network and phone service. How Do You Qualify?
The main requirement for Lifeline phone services is that you or your household be low resource. The determination is based on your income. If you are at 135% of the poverty line or below, then you may be eligible. Also, if you qualify for one of a number of aid programs, you may automatically be eligible. these programs include SNAP (food stamps), medicaid and SSI.
How Much Do You Save?
Lifeline offers you a small contribution for your phone and/or internet services of up to $9.25 per month. If you live on tribal lands, you may be eligible for up to a $34.25 contribution. For many, these amounts may cover up to and over half of their phone or internet bills. Overtime, this monthly benefit will result in big savings for program participants.

Signing up for Lifeline is easy. All you have to do is find a qualified cell and/or internet service provider who offers the Lifeline program. They will have the instructions you need to get started.
