Animals, like people, can have a variety of health problems such as terminal diseases or internal parasites. The former is usually difficult to avoid while the latter can usually be dealt with by choosing the right Pet Vaccinations. Some canine vaccines protect from some pretty nasty critters. Dogs are prone to heartworm, roundworms, and other nasty parasites. Certain vaccines help reduce this problem, which improves both the length of the animal’s life and the quality of it. Heartworms can be a deadly concern that cannot be removed once contracted. Sadly, many owners opt out of this protection due to concerns about price.

This error in judgement could result in a sick or dying friend. Those favorite friends should have certain Pet Vaccinations when they are young. For example, young dogs should have initial vaccines for parvo, distemper, and rabies. These vaccines are sometimes known as puppy shots. About a year later, they will need boosters for rabies, parvo, and distemper. Boosters can also be administered for other vaccines if required. After this, the pet should be able to get by with boosters every few years provided the shots are strong enough. Vaccines are useful because they provide the antibodies required for fighting certain viruses. As veterinary medicine evolves, there should be additional antibodies that improve the animal’s health.

Crucial or core feline vaccines include those for feline calicivirus (FCV), feline panleukopenia virus (FPV), feline herpesvirus 1 (FHV1), and the rabies virus. Suggested vaccination times for kittens are about sixteen weeks of age. This way the kitten is mature enough to handle the antibodies as the body develops the means to deal with them. Another treatment that is useful for cats are the vaccines for feline leukemia virus (FeLV). This is a common ailment in certain cats that can be life threatening. Even worse, the leukemia develops somewhat slowly, so the animal suffers as it ages. Illnesses such as virulent FCV, Chlamydia felis, feline immunodeficiency virus, and Bordetella bronchiseptica & can also cause unnecessary suffering that may be alleviated with the right vaccines.
