Manufacturers offer consumers a wide range of coveralls and disposable pants to ensure that everyone is protected and comfortable no matter what the job. They vary anywhere from a heavy biological risk suit and sealed to pants, tops and disposable coveralls to light.

Biological Safety Suits

Once you know what you are working on and the level of workplace protection you need, you can compare it with the covers available to find the perfect match. At the top of the safety ladder, biological hazard covers are designed to protect against chemicals, aerosols, viruses, bacteria and much more. The manufacturer constructs these outfits with a higher strength of high density polyethylene to resist heat, moisture and smaller contaminants. The seams are usually sealed with hot compound or cemented to ensure that these suits have a strong seam without small needle holes that can allow pathogens in the suit.

Flame Retardant Fabric

For those who can work with flammable substances, flame resistant pants and covers are essential. Airmen in the Air Force or workers the oil and gas industry often use Nomex or another equivalent fabric to protect themselves. They are treated with a special chemical that prevents the flame from reaching the actual stitches in the weave. Flame resistant pants are available in lightweight fabric for summer, heavier weight for colder and insulated days to protect against extreme cold.

The Three Main Materials

Tyvek, made from lightweight, breathable fabric, is located at the lower end of the protection ladder. Maxguard pants, tops and suits consist of heavy fabrics that are stronger and more difficult to penetrate into chemicals. In the middle, brands such as Kleenguard suits and disposable pants are more breathable than Tyvek. All these brands give you the convenience of being durable enough to be used in many situations while being affordable enough to throw out when they become too damaged or dirty. Although many of these are disposable, you can reuse them. You can also purchase recycled versions as long as they have not been in an area near potentially threatening contaminants.
