It does not matter which brand of air conditioning system we install in our homes or workplace, the process and principles remains the same. The main objective of an air conditioning system is to regulate the temperature of a particular area. They do this by removing heat from an area and replacing this heat with air of a lower temperature. This heat is then transferred outside and the process continues until the temperature in the area is at the desired temperature. It is recommended that we consult one of the numerous companies specializing in heating and air conditioning installations in Cincinnati if we require a more detailed explanation of the air conditioning process.

The basic process

As mentioned above, an air conditioning system removes heat from an area or space and replaces it with cooler air until the temperature corresponds with the value selected on the control system. All air conditioning systems work in this way.

The first stage of any air conditioning system concerns the removal of the heat inside the room. Many people mistakenly believe that air conditioning systems simply cool the air that is present in an area. This is not correct. What actually happens is that the air conditioning system first removes the hotter air and then replaces it with cooler air. This process continues whilst the air conditioning system remains active. A refrigerant, usually Freon, enters the compressor and undergoes many stages of compression until finally it is changed into a liquid. This liquid is under a very high pressure and is passed through a small opening at a high speed which causes the liquid to evaporate and turn back into a gas. This evaporation draws the hot air out of the space and replaces it with the cooler air that is delivered to the area by a fan situated inside the unit. This continues until the thermostat acknowledges that the room is at the desired temperature, at which point the compressor is automatically shut down until the temperature in the room begins to rise once more.

The main components

An air conditioning system has three main components, namely the compressor, an evaporator and a condenser. The evaporator part of the system is installed inside the home or workspace whilst the other two components, the compressor and condenser, are installed outside of the building. It is advisable to seek professional assistance if we notice any problems with one or all of these components.
