Plumbing problems in Chicago come in all sizes from small leaks to major drain clogs, but one of the toughest disasters to deal with is the death of the water heater. We use heated water for a variety of functions such as cleaning ourselves, our clothes, dishes and many other things in the household. Likewise, commercial use of water heating systems is just as varied. Hospitals, medical clinics and restaurants all use hot water and most building complexes have access to heated water systems. In some cases hot water is also used in heating certain areas of the home through radiated heating.

Water Heaters in Chicago come in several types. There is the ‘tankless’ variety that heats water as it is required and the more common storage tank variety of water heaters. The latter comes in two basic types. One uses electric heating elements to heat the water and the other uses either natural gas or propane as the heating fuel. Electric based water heaters are becoming more common because people feel they are a safe alternative to gas fueled water heaters. These tanks are often installed in the attic or basement of the homes.

Gas based system may also be installed in these areas, but some homes may have them placed in an external room or garage for safety. Gas burning water heaters need proper ventilation for the exhaust so the fumes don’t collect in the home causing carbon monoxide poisoning. When your water heater fails and it’s time to replace the system it is a good idea to clean, repair or replace the exhaust for your gas burning tank as required.

Household Water Heaters in Chicago come in several sizes ranging from twenty to one hundred gallons for normal use. Commercial versions tend to be much larger depending on the capacity of the building although some commercial properties will be set up with regular water heating units for each individual business.
