Finding the right flooring for a commercial building of any type is going to be a problem if you don’t know all the options. Standard types of flooring such as tile, hardwood or carpeting are not going to stand up to the wear and tear are completely unsuitable to the working environment.
This is particularly true in garages, bays, storage facilities, retail outlets and in manufacturing and processing plants. Concrete flooring cannot be left as is because it is too porous and too easily stained and damaged. Other types of flooring are cost prohibitive or simply will not stand up to chemical spills, grease and oil or other types of accidents.
Problems with Flooring Options
In garages, surfacing of the floors can be particularly problematic. Hot tires will cause the floor coating to lift if paints or cheap epoxy coatings are used. This is much made worse by spills that can include grease, oil, fuels and specific chemicals used in cleaning parts or as fluids in engines. These spills can easily stain the areas where the surfacing is damaged, resulting in a dirty, uncared for look in any garage.
However, with the use of commercial epoxy flooring applied by professional contractors it is possible to avoid all of the issues found with the cheap types of surfacing and coating systems found at local hardware and paint stores. These epoxy coatings are beautiful, durable and built to stand up to whatever the work environment includes.
Aesthetics
The look of commercial epoxy flooring is amazing. Depending on the specific type selected it can mimic the look of granite, quartz or terrazzo stone flooring. The professional process is a multiple step procedure that includes hand broadcasting the decorative chips over a base coat to create the look of smaller and larger aggregates or patterns within the floor.
A clear coat is then applied over the entire surface that seals the flooring, resisting stains and giving a highly polished look to the floor. With specialized rolling there is a slight “orange peel” texture created that helps to reduce slipping on the floor while it is wet, adding to the safety and the visual appeal of polished natural stone.
However, unlike stone floors, there are no seams with commercial epoxy flooring. This means no additional grouting and no concerns about having to seal the grout. This factor alone makes it both beautiful as well as practical for areas where there is food or beverage processing or for medical offices, hospitals, clinics or veterinary practices.
