Stonewall Kitchen Foods is an award-winning specialty foods producer located in York, Maine. The company was established in 1991 by Jim Stott and Jonathan King. Starting with local farmers markets and fairs, the two men sold their high-quality jams and jellies to people attending the events. Over the years they increased their inventory. They gradually added sauces, condiments, mustards, and baking mixes. Today Stonewall Kitchen Foods has over 500 products, ten retail stores along the East Coast, and their products are in over 6,000 of stores through their wholesalers. Stonewall Kitchen Foods has won 28 prestigious awards from the Specialty Food Associate and a three-time recipient of the Outstanding Product Line Honors.
In addition to making delicious specialty foods, Stonewall Kitchen Foods is active with different communities. For the past four years, Stonewall has hosted its “Battle of the Food Trucks.” This past June participating food trucks created delicious dishes using Stonewall Kitchen products. Dishes were judged based on presentation, creativity, and flavor. This year, the “Battle of the Food Trucks” was won by Clyde’s Cupcakes with second place going to Mami Japanese Food Truck.
One of the goals of Stonewall Kitchen Foods is to introduce more people to foods from Main. What makes their foods so good? Maybe it is the fresh ingredients they use, or it could be their robust product development department. Or maybe it is just because so many people think their food taste really good.
Even though the market for specialty foods has become crowded over the last several years, Stonewall Kitchen Foods has managed to do well. Visitors to their website can find over 800 recipes and cooking demonstration videos. They even have a cooking school with an enrollment of more than 10,000 students last year.
