The spring latch is a reliable piece of hardware which provides secure closure and easy access. It’s a reliable, low cost component that is used primarily on hinged doors and panel sections. Spring latches are simplistic, yet effective, and come in three different types:
Latch Bolt
The latch bolt is an extremely common type of spring latch which is typically part of a full lockset, and is a spring-loaded bolt that has an angled edge. When a door is shut, the angled edge of the latch bolt catches the lip of the strike plate. A spring then allows the bolt to retract. Once the door is completely closed, the bolt extends into the strike plate, fixing the door closed. When the door the door handle is turned, the latch bolt is retracted, allowing the door to open.
Deadlock
Similarly, the deadlock is a more elaborate version of the latch bolt, and is a highly effective, (albeit a bit more complicated) type of spring latch. It includes a guard which prevents tampering of the latch bolt. When the door is closed, the latch bolt and guard are engaged and retracted simultaneously, and the latch bolt enters the strike plate. The strike plate holds the guard in the depressed position as the latch bolt is held in the projected position. This prevents the latch bolt from becoming depressed through the use of a tool or plastic card (such as a credit card), which would lead to a break-in or any form of unauthorized entry.
Spring Bolt
Finally, the spring bolt lock, also known as the night latch, is simply a lock with a latch bolt mechanism. These, and the other two types, have a variety of uses: Weaponry, cars, doors, and bakeware. As with any product, though, the quality of the design is the most salient aspect. This is something manufacturers like Matdan Corp. understand.
