Although a good pocket knife can come in handy for many reasons, many people only buy knives to collect. Some knives that they may have in their collection may not be legal to carry; however, they are easy to buy. Here are three tips for taking care of collectible knives.

Store Knives Properly

If you’re going to collect knives, you need to know how to store them properly. While they can be displayed in a case, they should not be stored in their sheaths. If the sheath is made from leather, it can retain moisture and leave pits on the blade. Instead, store knives in vinyl rolls with cloth interiors or place jumbo stilettos in display cases lined with cloth to set them on.

Remove Labels

If there was a label on the handle of the knife when you bought it, the adhesive can sometimes stick to it. To remove it, apply some nail polish remover on a cloth and gently wipe the area with the cloth. Since it contains acetone, work in a well-ventilated area when you use nail polish remover for any reason. Lighter fluid can also be used for this purpose, though nail polish remover is probably more readily available.

Keep Blades Clean

Even though you may not ever use your collectible knives, they will need to be cleaned to remove dust. After dusting your knives, put small drops of oil on knife joints and put a small drop on a clean cloth. Use the cloth to wipe down the blades and handle so that they are clean. Also, open and close the knife to ensure that the mechanism gets well-oiled too.

Collectible knives such as jumbo stilettos can become valuable with the passage of time and if they are kept in good shape. Learning how to properly care for knives can help increase their value.
