Homeowners and those living in apartments and condos in the Nashville area may have a need for short or long-term storage at any point in time. While it is common to use these secured facilities in the move, they can also be used for seasonal items, during renovations and even prior to the home sale for decluttering and safekeeping of extra furniture and items.

For those individuals packing and boxing items to be moved into vaults in moving company facilities, there are a few important packing tips to keep in mind. The first, and most important, is to take the time to pack items correctly. Cutting corners with limited packing materials and poor-quality boxes is more likely to result in damage, even if the movers are extremely careful during the moving process.

Breakable Items

Pack breakable items with similar items in durable, good quality boxes. Moving company storage will be well-ventilated and maintained, and they may even be climate controlled, but strong boxes will help to protect breakables.

Use bubble wrap around the entire object. It’s a good idea to use more than one layer for any pieces with unusual shapes or edges or unique features. Place larger objects in the bottom of the box, with smaller, lighter ones to the top. Put a significant layer of packing peanuts between objects, preventing direct contact.

Never over-fill or over-pack boxes. Crowding items in the box will have a greater likelihood of causing damage. Makes sure there is a layer of bubble wrap, packing paper or additional peanuts on the top, bottom and all sides of the box.

Furniture

The movers will wrap all furniture going into storage. This protects the surface from dust and debris and also prevents any rubbing or scraping of the furniture on the truck or in the facility.

Always check to make sure all items are out of drawers or storage areas in the furniture. Additionally, make sure any loose components, mirrors or accent elements that can be removed are removed to prevent damage.
