When visiting BVI for a luxury yacht charter, it’s good to know where to begin and what to expect. You don’t want to get swindled on what should be a good experience with your family and friends, and Tatler has some great tips for what a beginner in the yacht chartering community should know.
1. Charter Companies and Brokers. When you’ve chosen a luxury yacht charter based in BVI, you’ll be assigned to a broker. If you want to get technical these companies are often called a brokerage house. The broker you get in contact with is your go-between from the charter company, the boat owner, and yourself. He or she works towards your interests, desires, and timescale. A broker is meant to be your partner in this endeavor, the person to get you the best possible deal that you can find.
2. Families, but no pets. A chartered yacht is a safe and comfortable zone designed for families, couples, and people in all ranges of age. You could celebrate the birth of your newborn by taking a leisure cruise with your extended family and you’ll find yourself risk and hassle free. Yet most families consider their pets a part of the whole dynamic, and to a charter company this is not the case. If you wish to bring your pet with you it might take more haggling than its worth—that is to say it isn’t doable, but it takes more time, more money, and more work to get the charter to agree.
3. All the amenities and perks. Live your life like the rich and famous, just not as stylishly dressed. You’ll be out on open water when using a luxury yacht charter in BVI and you don’t want your nice dress clothes ruined by saltwater. Casual, comfortable clothes are best—especially when coupled with a relaxing atmosphere and no unreasonable restrictions. Just remember to tip your crew when you’re done in whatever way is most comfortable to you.
Charting a yacht isn’t that hard of a task, but to a beginner it’s daunting and often terrifying. How can you be assured of the cost? What is or isn’t allowed on the boat? What are the rules, and do you need to tip? Just remember to be courteous and that your broker is there to help you understand everything you need to know about your charter experience.
